Operator training to recognised standards offered in partnership with specialist provider Didac

Resulting from the recently announced working partnership between woodworking machinery distributors and manufacturers Daltons and training specialist Didac, Daltons are now able to offer the City and Guilds backed Woodwise Certificate – Safe Use of Woodworking Machinery to machinery operators within the woodworking industry, thereby becoming one of the first Woodwise Approved Centres in the country.

The Nottingham based company, who offer a wide portfolio of woodworking equipment and are main UK distributors for many leading brand names, currently have three specialist training personnel on their staff, all of whom have achieved City and Guilds certification themselves and have recently acquired all the additional qualifications to enable them to go out into the industry to train operatives at every level. Leading the ‘training’ team is Sean Taylor who is quick to point out that Daltons now have the qualification, ability and occupational experience to provide a full training service to anyone from one or two man businesses to the larger joinery and furniture manufacturers, timber suppliers, etc, and of course the public sector where Daltons as major suppliers have significant contracts with schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, the prison service, etc.

Successful single candidates or groups of employees trained by the Daltons team will receive the Woodwise Certificate – Safe Use of Woodworking Machinery, listing the machines on which they have achieved the required level of competence and these can be counted as evidence for other qualifications such as an NVQ in Machine Woodworking. Accordingly within a short space of time both novices and experienced operators can become certified on just one machine or a selection of machines, depending on needs. Training incorporates both theory and practical training and can be carried out within the user’s premises or alternatively at Daltons’ Nottingham headquarters.

Training partners Didac are enthusiastic about the qualification status achieved by Daltons who they recognise as a leading player within the sector. They are also aware that in offering the same training opportunities themselves the two companies can together become a focus throughout the UK for operator training within the woodworking industry.
